Christmas lunch at Avon House is wonderful. Getting 180 children seated in the hall however is not. After a morning of setting out the chairs and tables with some willing helpers we then set about the task of feeding 180 children roast turkey, roast potatoes, vegetables and gravy. Not forgetting the vegetarian dishes and those with wheat and dairy allergies. My JLGB training came into play (and maybe the fact that we Jewish people like a good spread). I ended up by the heated trolley co-ordinating where the meat and veg was going. It was a wonderful lunch (I did get some in the end). The highlight for the children of course was a visit from Father Christmas. The day was rounded up with a turn from Betty Banana who gave us an hours rest whilst she entertained the children.
Phew! That’s over Reception’s concert tomorrow.
