"Big R" Update

So many parents have been in to see me about "The Big R". They are impressed when their child has told them about their ideas on repect and the parents only have to mention "Mrs Harris" and the child does as they are told or stops being rude. (shame it doesn't work with my own children. Any sugggestions?)

The Big "R" in action!

The "Respect Drive" has now been put into action. I don't expect my little people to stand up when a teacher walks in to the room but we have talked about how they greet their parents at the end of the day. They are working hard not to fling their bags on their parents but to carry them themselves (even if it is only to the school gates). From this discussion we decided to make a new year's resolution tree and everyone put their resolution on a leaf (turining over a new leaf). Not only is it a great wall display it is a reminder of our promises!
Good luck Transition let's see what this week brings!

The "Big R"

Whilst I am not a "Blair Fan" I found it amusing that Tony picked up on my "Respect Drive". I do hope that this is taken forward. Schools should re -introduce standing up when a teacher enters a room. It not only shows respect, it would stop the chit chat that goes on when two members of staff have to discuss an issue!

Look here and here for Blair's report.

Back to school!

Well it was back to school today. I was expecting my class to be unruly and not remember any previously learned concepts. I was pleasantly surprised as we managed to get through both numeracy and literacy lessons really well with some lovely work produced.

I think the children relish the structure, rules and routine of the school day. This year 2006 Transition are working very hard with the "Big R" (respect). This has not always been easy and some of the children think that they are members of staff!

Well only 5 weeks to go and then it will be half-term. When we reach half-term we will be halfway through the academic year!

House of Harris is a house of studying at the moment as Joelle is halfway through her GCSE mocks and Carly is about to take some re-sits for AS levels to bump up the final result. We are waiting to hear from the universities at the moment and will let you know as soon as any offers come in (hopefully they will!)

"It's a Wonderful Life"

"Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. When he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he? "

For the first time I watched "It's a Wonderful Life". What a lovely film to make you feel good about your life no matter how tedious or ordinary it feels at times.

If you haven't seen it or want a quick recap of the story click here. (a 30 second version of the film acted by bunnies!)
